Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lena kinta'nija'peres 16 April 1971 until March 31, 1995) was known by her mononym, Selena, was an American Tejano singer. The "Queen Tejano music", her contributions to music and fashion have made her one of the most famous Mexican-American entertainers ever. Billboard magazine placed her at third in 2020 in their "Greatest Latino Artists List of All Time", which was based on Latin songs and Latin albums. In 1994 she came out with Amor Prohibido, which became one of the best-selling Latin albums sold in the United States. The album was widely praised for being responsible for Tejano music's debut as a marketable genre as it became one of the most popular Latin music subgenres at the time.
